A deep limestone canyon carved by the Tarn river through the Causse Méjean and Causse de Sauveterre plateaus between Florac and Millau, stretching nearly 55 kilometres. The canyon walls rise 400 to 600 metres in places, sheltering medieval villages and Romanesque churches on narrow alluvial ledges. Canoe descent of the river between La Malène and Sainte-Énimie is the standard warm-season activity.
