A vast highland national park in the southern Massif Central encompassing granite uplands, chestnut forests, deep river gorges, and one of France's darkest night skies. The park was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is one of the least-populated areas of metropolitan France, creating exceptional conditions for stargazing and silence. R.L. Stevenson's 1878 donkey trek through the Cévennes popularised the region for long-distance hiking.
