A fortified medieval village above Vence on the Riviera, historically a gathering point for twentieth-century artists including Chagall, Matisse, and Miró. The Fondation Maeght on the village outskirts holds one of Europe's finest collections of modern and contemporary art set within Miró sculpture gardens. The village ramparts afford wide views south toward the coast and the Baie des Anges.
