A bare limestone massif east of Aix-en-Provence, rising sharply from the surrounding plain to 1,011 metres at the Pic des Mouches. Cézanne painted this mountain more than sixty times from various vantage points north and south of the ridge, making it one of the most art-historically significant landscapes in France. The GR9 trail along the crest ridge provides panoramic views over Provence and the Sainte-Baume range.
