A twelfth-century Cistercian monastery sheltered in a narrow valley north of Gordes, surrounded by lavender fields that bloom in July. The combination of grey Romanesque stonework and purple lavender rows in the foreground is one of the most reproduced images in Provence photography. The abbey remains an active community, and visits to the church and cloisters are permitted at designated hours.
