Europe's largest canyon cuts through the limestone plateau of Haute-Provence, with walls plunging up to 700 metres above the turquoise Verdon river. The Route des Crêtes along the north rim offers a succession of belvederes overlooking the tightest bends of the gorge. Kayaking, via ferrata, and hiking the Sentier Martel are the primary activities through the canyon floor.
