A four-kilometre arc of sand at the southwestern tip of the Gower Peninsula, Rhossili Bay is consistently ranked among the finest beaches in Britain. The bay is backed by Rhossili Down, the highest point on Gower, which provides a clifftop vantage above the beach that is particularly effective in late afternoon light when the sands glow. At low tide, the wooden ribs of the wrecked barque Helvetia, which grounded in 1887, emerge from the sand near the headland.
