A small harbour town on the Camel Estuary in north Cornwall, Padstow has retained its working fishing port character while becoming known for its concentration of quality seafood restaurants. The Camel Trail, a traffic-free cycling and walking route converted from a disused railway, runs along the estuary to Wadebridge and Bodmin. The view across the estuary at low tide, with the sand bars and the town's painted harbour cottages, is characteristic of north Cornwall's more sheltered estuarine landscape.
