A cove on the Lizard Peninsula backed by cliffs of the rare green-and-red serpentinite rock unique to this part of Cornwall, Kynance Cove is accessible only via a steep path from the clifftop car park. At low tide the retreating sea reveals white sand and a cluster of sea stacks, caves, and natural arches. The turquoise colour of the shallow water — produced by the underlying pale sand — is unusual for a northern European beach.
