Bath is built almost entirely from honey-coloured Bath stone and represents the most complete Georgian city in Britain, a status recognised by its UNESCO World Heritage designation. The Roman Baths, built around natural hot springs that still flow at 45°C, form the civic heart of the city and contain one of the best-preserved Roman sites in northern Europe. The Royal Crescent and the Circus, both designed by John Wood the Elder and Younger, are the definitive expressions of eighteenth-century urban planning.
