Derwentwater

A broad lake south of Keswick studded with small wooded islands, Derwentwater sits in a basin ringed by high fells including Skiddaw and Catbells. The view across the water from Friar's Crag — a short walk from Keswick — was described by John Ruskin as one of the finest in Europe and remains a benchmark Lake District composition. A seasonal passenger launch circles the lake, making viewpoints accessible from the water.
