The third-highest peak in England, Helvellyn is most famously approached via Striding Edge, a narrow rock arête that provides a genuine scramble above steep drops on both sides. The mountain sits at the heart of the Lake District and the summit plateau offers panoramic views across to the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. The Swirral Edge descent creates a classic circular ridge walk from Glenridding or Patterdale.
