Hook Lighthouse on the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford is one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world, with a tower of twelfth-century construction built on the site of a monastic light maintained since the fifth century. The 35-metre tower stands at the tip of a flat limestone headland where the Atlantic meets the Irish Sea, and continues to function as an active aid to navigation. Guided tours of the tower offer views across Waterford Harbour and Dunmore East.
