Keem Bay

Keem Bay is a sheltered horseshoe-shaped cove at the western end of Achill Island in County Mayo, enclosed by steep cliffs including the slopes of Croaghaun to the north. The beach is composed of fine dark sand fringed by clear turquoise water, and is accessible only via a single winding road descending the cliff. The bay was historically used as a basking shark hunting ground, and the cliffs above the beach provide vantage points for watching the current population of sharks in summer.
