Dunluce Castle is a ruined medieval castle perched on a basalt outcrop on the north Antrim coast, connected to the clifftop mainland by a narrow bridge. The castle was the seat of the MacDonnell clan and was one of the largest and most sophisticated castle complexes in Ireland during the sixteenth century. A section of the kitchen fell into the sea during a storm in 1639, and the outer walls have continued to erode, leaving a dramatic ruin visible against the Atlantic horizon.
