The Giant's Causeway is a formation of roughly 40,000 interlocking basalt columns on the north Antrim coast of Northern Ireland, produced by an ancient volcanic eruption and subsequent rapid cooling approximately 60 million years ago. The columns, predominantly hexagonal, extend from the clifftop into the sea, creating a distinctive stepped platform. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited tourist attraction in Northern Ireland.
