A spa town on the Nemunas river in southern Lithuania, developed as a health resort from the 19th century for its mineral spring waters and situated within a large pine forest at the edge of Dzūkija National Park. The Dzūkija region is known for mushroom-gathering traditions and folk crafts. The Grūtas Sculpture Park on the town's outskirts displays Soviet-era bronze statues of Lenin, Stalin, and other communist leaders removed from public spaces after 1990.
