A protected wetland area in southwestern Lithuania where the Nemunas River divides into multiple channels before entering the Curonian Lagoon, creating a mosaic of river islands, oxbow lakes, floodplain meadows, and reed beds. The delta is one of the most important staging areas for migratory waterbirds in the eastern Baltic, with cormorant and heron colonies established on the islands. Traditional flat-bottomed boats navigate the labyrinthine channels, and eel fishing using historic wicker traps continues in several villages.
