A small town in the Gauja National Park known as the Switzerland of Latvia for its forested sandstone valley scenery, medieval castle ruins, and toboggan run. The town sits at the edge of the Gauja valley, and the opposite cliffside is reached by cable car — an unusual feature for flat Latvia. The autumn foliage season transforms the valley in shades of gold and amber, drawing photographers to the viewpoints above the river bend.
