The windswept northern tip of the Courland Peninsula where the Gulf of Riga meets the open Baltic Sea, forming a shallow meeting of waters notable for its sand shoals and unpredictable currents. The cape lies within the Slītere National Park, part of which was a Soviet-era restricted military zone and has consequently retained near-pristine coastal forest and dune systems. The remote beach stretching south from the cape is backed by ancient grey dunes forested with centuries-old pine.
