A large lake in the Dalarna region occupying the centre of a meteorite impact crater roughly 360 million years old, the largest impact structure in Europe. Villages of red timber farmhouses surround the shore, and the lake's circular form creates a distinctive panorama from surrounding hillsides. The area is closely associated with Swedish folk traditions, including the midsummer celebrations that draw large gatherings each June.
