The Sermersooq municipality encompasses much of South and East Greenland, incorporating the capital Nuuk, the East Greenland coastal settlements, and vast wilderness areas between them. The municipality's territory includes the southernmost outlet glaciers of the Greenland Ice Sheet and extensive low-Arctic tundra ecosystems. It serves as the administrative and cultural centre of Greenland, housing national institutions, museums, and the main university.
