Uummannaq is a small town built on a rocky island in northwest Greenland, dominated by the 1,170-metre heart-shaped Uummannaq Mountain that gives the island its name. The surrounding fjord is frozen for much of the winter and used as a dog-sled highway connecting remote settlements, making it one of the last areas in Greenland where traditional dog sledding remains integral to daily life. The colourful wooden houses clustered at the mountain's foot make the town one of the most visually distinctive in Greenland.
