Geldingadalir is a valley on the Reykjanes Peninsula where Iceland's most recent confirmed eruption began in March 2021, producing lava fountains and flows that ran for months. The hardened lava field now covers the valley floor in ropy and blocky formations still warm in places, and trails allow visitors to walk across the fresh volcanic landscape. It represents one of the most accessible locations in the world to observe a very recent eruption site.
