Landmannalaugar sits in the interior highlands where rhyolite mountains display an extraordinary palette of greens, reds, purples, and yellows from mineral deposits and obsidian flows. Natural hot springs at the base of a lava field provide warm bathing among the hills. It is the northern trailhead of the Laugavegur hiking route, one of the world's most celebrated multi-day treks.
