Mud walls in the Caribbean: Coro built with earth as no other city in the region did, fusing local techniques with Spanish Mudéjar style and Dutch influences from the nearby Antilles. Founded in 1527 among the earliest colonial towns of the Americas, it retains some 602 historic buildings. UNESCO inscribed Coro and its port of La Vela in 1993.
