Glaciers wrote their signature across Yosemite in polished granite domes, hanging valleys, moraines and plunging waterfalls — a textbook of ice-carved mountain scenery in California's Sierra Nevada. From about 600 metres up to 4,000, its elevations stack habitats supporting remarkable plant and animal diversity, from giant sequoia groves to alpine heights. UNESCO inscribed the park in 1984.
