For over 200,000 years, humans kept returning to Faya. Archaeological layers in this Sharjah desert landscape span the Middle Palaeolithic to the Neolithic, recording hunter-gatherers and herders who rode out climate swings between rain and hyper-aridity recurring roughly every 20,000 years, drawing on its springs, stone and mineral resources. Few places say more about human persistence in extreme environments. UNESCO inscribed the palaeolandscape in 2025.
