Six steel towers, each 127 metres high, march across the Halland countryside at Grimeton, carrying the antenna of a radio station built between 1922 and 1924 to hurl wireless messages across the Atlantic. Its Alexanderson alternator transmitter is still kept in working order, which makes Grimeton the only major station of the pre-electronic radio era to survive functional. UNESCO recognized this singular relic of early telecommunications with World Heritage inscription in 2004.
