The Hai Phong Opera House is a graceful French colonial theatre in the centre of Vietnam's major northern port city, built in the early twentieth century in a European neoclassical style. Modelled on the grand opera houses of France, its pale facade with columns and balustrades faces a public square that forms a focal point of the city. It hosts concerts, traditional and modern performances and civic events, and the square around it is a popular gathering place.
