The Florianturm is a slender telecommunications tower in Dortmund's Westfalenpark, built in 1959 for the first Federal Garden Show and standing about 209 metres. When completed it was the tallest structure in Germany, and it became a symbol of the Ruhr region's post-war renewal. A viewing platform and a revolving restaurant sit near the top, reached by a high-speed lift and overlooking the park, the city and the industrial landscape beyond. Locals know it affectionately as the Florian.
