Showa Kinen Park is an expansive national garden in western Tokyo, laid out on a former air base to commemorate an imperial reign. Its huge grounds combine open meadows, cycling paths, ponds and elaborate seasonal flower displays, from spring tulips and poppies to sweeping fields of autumn cosmos. A traditional Japanese garden, a rest house and play zones give it broad appeal. Because of its scale, visitors often rent bicycles, and its illuminated evening events draw large crowds across the metropolitan area.
