The Parque Bicentenario is a modern park in the Vitacura district of Santiago, opened in 2007 to mark the approaching bicentenary of Chile's independence. Laid out beside the Mapocho River, it combines wide lawns, reflecting lagoons and native planting with views toward the snow-capped Andes. Flamingos and other birds inhabit its ponds, and shaded paths draw runners, cyclists and picnicking families. Its clean contemporary design and mountain backdrop have made it one of the capital's most admired green spaces.
