Griffith Park is one of the largest urban parks in North America, covering the rugged eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains above Los Angeles. Donated to the city in 1896, it mixes chaparral wilderness with developed attractions across its steep terrain. The white domes of Griffith Observatory crown a ridge with sweeping views over the basin and the nearby Hollywood Sign. The park also holds a zoo, a Greek theatre, miles of hiking and riding trails and a vintage carousel among its canyons.
