Isurumuni is an ancient rock temple in the sacred region north of Colombo, dating from the third century BCE and set beside a lotus-covered pond at the foot of a granite outcrop. It is celebrated for its carved stone reliefs, including a famous panel of a seated couple long known to admirers of Sri Lankan art. Small shrine rooms are cut into the boulders, and a modern image house shelters a reclining Buddha. Steps climb over the rock to a terrace with wide views across the tanks, blending early Buddhist heritage with a serene setting.
