The Djamaa el Djazair is a monumental modern mosque completed in 2019 on the bay east of the Algiers city centre. It holds the record for the tallest minaret in the world at around two hundred and sixty-five metres, topped by an observation deck and a museum of Islamic history. The vast prayer hall can accommodate well over one hundred thousand worshippers and is decorated with intricate calligraphy and craftsmanship. The complex also includes a library and cultural facilities in grounds facing the Mediterranean.
