The Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque in Dubai's Al Safa district is a striking example of Ottoman-inspired design realised in the twenty-first century. Rebuilt and reopened in 2011, it is loosely modelled on Istanbul's Blue Mosque, with cascading domes and four tall minarets. The interior is decorated with more than a hundred stained-glass windows, ornate calligraphy and a carpeted prayer hall lit by chandeliers. It is one of the few mosques in the city that welcomes non-Muslim visitors on guided tours.
