Áras an Uachtaráin is the official residence of the President of Ireland, set within the vast expanse of Phoenix Park in Dublin. Built in the eighteenth century and expanded over time, the white Palladian mansion served earlier as the residence of the British viceroy before becoming the presidential seat in 1938. A lamp in one of its windows burns as a symbol of welcome to the Irish diaspora. Free guided tours run on Saturdays, taking visitors through the state reception rooms and the historic corridors of the house.
