This dramatic bronze and granite monument honours Andrés Bonifacio, founder of the Katipunan secret society that launched the revolution against Spain in 1896. Sculpted by Guillermo Tolentino and unveiled in 1933, it rises from a busy rotunda with a heroic figure of Bonifacio surrounded by allegorical statues of revolutionaries and citizens. A tall obelisk behind the group symbolises the movement's aspirations. The monument gives its name to the surrounding district and remains a focus for commemorations of the leader.
