The Ethnographic Museum in Huye, sometimes called the National Museum of Rwanda, is regarded as one of the finest ethnographic collections in East Africa. Housed in a building given by Belgium at independence, it presents seven galleries covering geology, prehistory, agriculture, crafts, dwellings, customs and traditional dress. Displays include recreated homesteads, weaving, pottery and ceremonial objects that illustrate precolonial Rwandan society. Explanatory panels situate the artefacts within daily life and belief.
