The Bamoun Palace Museum in Foumban preserves the treasures of one of Cameroon's most powerful traditional kingdoms in the western highlands. Housed within the sultan's palace, its collections include royal thrones, beaded statues, masks, weapons and ceremonial objects documenting a dynasty stretching back centuries. Exhibits celebrate the kingdom's distinctive art, its invented script and the reign of its most famous ruler. A newer crescent-shaped museum building nearby expands the displays.
