This Lanzhou museum sits along the historic Silk Road corridor and is best known for the Flying Horse of Gansu, a graceful bronze galloping steed that has become a national tourism emblem. Its galleries hold painted Neolithic pottery, Buddhist art connected to the Mogao caves and objects illustrating trade across the northwest. Displays trace the movement of goods, faiths and peoples along the desert routes. The collection gives a vivid sense of the province's role as a cultural crossroads.
