The home of the American author James Norman Hall, co-writer of the Mutiny on the Bounty trilogy, has been preserved as a museum in Arue near Papeete. Hall settled in Tahiti in the 1920s, and the restored wooden house displays his library, writing room, personal effects and manuscripts, evoking the life of an expatriate writer in the South Pacific. Set in a garden, it offers insight into the literary romanticisation of Tahiti that shaped the island's image abroad.
