The Rock Islands of Palau are a maze of hundreds of forested limestone knobs rising from a turquoise lagoon, inscribed by UNESCO as a mixed natural and cultural World Heritage site. Undercut by erosion into mushroom shapes, the islands shelter hidden marine lakes, coral gardens and remnants of abandoned villages and rock art. The area supports outstanding marine biodiversity and is the centre of Palau's diving and snorkelling tourism.
