The Rewa River is the largest river in Fiji, draining much of eastern Viti Levu before reaching the sea near the town of Nausori, just outside Suva. Broad and slow in its lower reaches, it flows past delta villages, mangroves and sugar-growing country, long serving as a vital transport route into the interior. Boat trips from riverside settlements carry visitors to traditional villages and cultural experiences. As the great waterway of the capital's hinterland, the Rewa shapes the landscape and rural life on the doorstep of Suva.
