This covered market a block from Oaxaca's main square is one of the city's busiest, a warren of stalls selling regional produce, chocolate, chapulines, mezcal, chillies and handicrafts. Its aisles overflow with the ingredients of the region's famous cuisine, from mole pastes to fresh cheeses, alongside textiles, leather goods and pottery. Traders have gathered on this site for well over a century, and the market remains a daily hub for both residents and visitors. The neighbouring stalls specialising in grilled meat draw crowds at lunchtime.
