This baroque basilica in the highlands of Jalisco is one of the most important Marian pilgrimage sites in Mexico, drawing millions of visitors each year to venerate a small image of the Virgin. Its twin towers and richly carved facade rise above the compact town that grew around the shrine. Inside, the gilded altarpieces and painted vaults reflect centuries of devotion and donation. Great feast days fill the surrounding streets with pilgrims, market stalls and processions, sustaining a tradition that predates Mexican independence.
