Housed in the former El Paso County Courthouse, a domed 1903 building in downtown Colorado Springs, this free museum interprets the history of the Pikes Peak region. Galleries cover the Ute people, the founding of the resort city by General William Palmer, tuberculosis sanatoriums, and the gold-mining boom at nearby Cripple Creek. A restored courtroom and a working cage elevator survive from the courthouse days, and the building's tower and marble interiors are attractions themselves.
