Overlooking a small lake in Pierre, South Dakota's capitol was completed in 1910 in a Neoclassical style closely modeled on Montana's statehouse. Italian marble, terrazzo floors laid by immigrant artisans, and a marble staircase distinguish the interior, along with murals in the rotunda and chambers. The grounds include a flame-lit veterans memorial and reflecting waters that mirror the dome. A centennial restoration returned the building to its early appearance.
