This state historic site in Laramie preserves a stone prison built in 1872 that once held outlaws of the Wyoming Territory, including, briefly, the famous Butch Cassidy. Restored cell blocks, a warden's quarters, and a broom factory where inmates labored are open to visitors, interpreting frontier justice and prison life. The surrounding grounds include reconstructed ranch buildings and interpretive trails along the Laramie River, recalling a young territory imposing order.
